The Executive MBA program (EMBA) at University of Geneva (UNIGE) provides executives with a first-class general management education without interrupting their careers. It is designed to balance theory and practice, and analytical thinking and action, and is structured to ensure that participants gain leadership training through active participation, and a corporate executive perspective. It teaches participants to build foundational skills and confidence to expand their capacity to lead and face cross-functional challenges. UNIGE EMBA carefully selects the participant mix through a rigorous 4-step selection process to ensure a high quality peer-to-peer exchange. Its teaching staff is keenly aware of the need for managers and business leaders to develop and implement efficient operational solutions to complex situations. UNIGE EMBA is accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA).
Students are led to develop their autonomy, intellectual capacity and practical skills, and acquire the necessary tools to achieve their professional goals. They also learn to use their analytical and strategic skills to develop new solutions to complex problems rather than simply adopting ready-made solutions.
Faculty: The diverse origins and backgrounds of the faculty members and students guarantee an international perspective and cross-discipline input. Interaction between participants and faculty and group is highly encouraged; group work stimulates knowledge sharing. The students’ learning experience is enhanced by corporate work projects, in-class discussions, and presentations that build on their previous experience. The EMBA program encourages lively interaction between students and professors and stimulates the sharing of knowledge through group work.
New Block Format: In order to satisfy the demands of the international population, UNIGE EMBA now also offers block format courses in addition to the traditional bi-weekly program starting September 2016. This new format includes the same course offer as the bi-weekly program, but in a concentrated schedule. This block format is ideal for international participants from far horizons (i.e., Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia, etc.).
The full EMBA program cycle (both the bi-weekly and block formats) includes 24 modules and an In-company EMBA project, and lasts 2 years. 12 Core courses including Self-Leadership make up the the 1st year curriculum. Upon successful completion of the first year modules, students obtain a "statement of completion" and may continue their studies by joining the International Management or the Entrepreneurial Leadership programs (traditional EMBA curricula), or one of the proposed Specializations offered in French or English (see Specializations page). Block format Specializations are also available in the 2nd year: the Trading, Aviation & International Management programs.
Upon successful completion of both years, including the In-company EMBA project, graduating students receive the Master of Business Administration Degree. 100% participation is expected to validate the modules; each course comprises 24 class hours. For each class hour, students should count an additional 1 to 2 hours for reading, preparation, case study and evaluation.
1) Bi-weekly format (traditional): twice a month, on Friday afternoons (2pm-9pm), and Saturday mornings (8am-1pm); some courses are organized over 3 consecutive full days; to be completed over 2 years
2) Block format (concentrated model): 4 blocks of modules (8.30am-6.00pm) with 3 online courses per year; to be completed over 2 years. Ideal for international participants.
EMBA THESIS (IN-COMPANY PROJECT)
Students receive personalized evaluations and feedback throughout their program, including feedback and coaching from former students. Each program module is subject to an assessment. EMBA assessments include final exams, presentations, and/or project reports, and may be conducted individually or in groups. As part of the assessment requirement, students carry out a group project (3-4 students per group) in their area of specialization, which could be implemented in their businesses.
These projects are conducted in close collaboration with the sponsoring company, which is usually the student’s workplace. Students act as consultants and their findings and recommendations should be applied by the sponsoring organization.
